What is coronary artery bypass graft surgery?

How do you narrow the arteries of the heart?

Over time, fats, cholesterol, and other substances may build up in the walls of the arteries and form plaque. How is this surgery performed?

• You experienced sleep during the operation that lasts between 3 to 6 hours.
• You will be transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a few days after surgery.
• In the ICU, your family may see you for a short time.

How is it after surgery?

• You wake up in the ICU and you may feel dizzy at first.
• The ICU is crowded and turns on the lights. Lack of awareness of time is normal.
To help you breathe, a tube is placed in your mouth and throat, which makes you uncomfortable, and even though you can not speak, the nurses help you communicate.
• The breathing tube stays in place (several hours) until you can breathe again.
• Many pipes and wires may be connected to you.

What happens when you leave the ICU?

• You are transferred to normal hospital rooms.
• You feel pain.
You may sweat at night.
It may be a medicine you are taking.
You need to take deep breaths and cough hard to clear fluids.
• You start moving and continue walking.
